Napoli has suffered a major blow in their Serie A campaign, with captain Lorenzo Insigne ruled out for the rest of the season due to an injury. The forward suffered a thigh injury during Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Torino on Sunday, forcing him to be substituted in the 32nd minute.
After undergoing medical tests, it was confirmed that Insigne had suffered a grade-two injury to his right thigh muscle, which is expected to keep him out of action for at least four weeks. This means that the Italian international will miss Napoli‘s remaining league matches, including the crucial clash against fourth-placed Lazio next week.
Insigne has been a key player for Napoli this season, contributing 17 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. His absence will be a huge blow for the team, as they look to secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Despite the setback, Napoli head coach Gennaro Gattuso remains optimistic about his team’s chances. “Lorenzo is a great player, but we have a squad with quality players who are capable of stepping up and filling the void left by his absence,” he said.
Napoli currently sit fifth in the Serie A standings, one point behind Lazio with three games remaining. They will be hoping to finish the season strongly and secure a spot in Europe’s elite club competition.
